Interprofessional collaborative practice is a subject close to WCPT's heart. We know that health professionals working effectively together around the world can bring improved health services.   In May 2013, the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) launched its statement on Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, affirming that it would bring about and strengthen interprofessional collaborative partnerships. Such partnerships will be encouraged to share their experiences and serve as examples to others, thus spreading the knowledge of best practice. The WHPA, which brings together the professional bodies for the world's dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists and physicians, is itself a fine exemplar of the benefits of collaboration between professionals. Through regular meetings and information sharing, we support, link and add value to each other's work – moving ahead on such issues as collaborative practice more effectively than we could individually.   In recognition of the importance and to further stimulate the development of interprofessional collaborative practice WHPA will launch an award to celebrate and promote those values. 2014 report on NCDs

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has published a Global status report on noncommunicable diseases. It looks at the nine global targets and, for example, reports on results of national policies and programmes to improve physical activity. Download the full report at: bit.ly/1HicxXF

New student network

A new WCPT Network is being launched for physical therapist students and early career professionals: www.wcpt.org/students.   If you would like to get involved, WCPT is looking for volunteers who are student physical therapists/early career professionals for the roles of primary contact person and regional facilitators. The closing date for submissions is 13th February 2015. All applications/recommendations need the support of a WCPT member organisation. To find out more and access the application form go to: www.wcpt.org/students.   WCPT also has 11 other networks covering areas from amputee rehabilitation to spinal cord injury. Exercise programmes free to all

Last week's WCPT News included an article announcing WCPT's new professional partnership with Physiotherapyexercises.com – a web-based service run by physical therapists that enables colleagues around the world to generate exercise programmes for their patients. The website, available in multiple languages, provides access to over 1,000 exercises for people with different injuries and disabilities. Access free case studies

One of WCPT's continuing education partners, Educata, has announced a new website featuring patient case studies: www.ptcasestudies.com. The first case looks at the treatment of a patient presenting with central cervical pain.  The whole case study is available to view at no charge, with a paid-for option to earn continuing education credits and access the full suggested bibliography.

UN General Assembly drafts resolution on disability

The Third Committee of the 69th session of the General Assembly negotiated a draft resolution on disability entitled: "Realizing the Millennium Development Goals and other internationally agreed development goals for persons with disabilities towards 2015 and beyond". The resolution will work to promote the mainstreaming of disability in development, as well as in international cooperation, national development strategies and official statistics.
