WCPT E-Update - November 2012

WCPT e-update
WCPT.ORG

November 2012

From the President and Secretary General

This is the last e-update for 2012, and as the year comes to a close it is interesting to reflect on the progress made in achieving WCPT objectives and raising the international profile of physical therapy over the past 12 months.

Highlights of 2012 included the relaunch of World Physical Therapy Day with a new look and new materials, the collection of data from member organisations to create an international profile of the profession, the Olympics and Paralympics focusing attention on  the work of physical therapists, successful conferences and meetings across regions and subgroups, and WCPT's increasing visibility on social media.

Communications is at the heart of what we do and as we move to 2013 this will become increasingly clear as we relaunch our website and continue to improve how we get our messages to you.

Kind regards
Marilyn Moffat and Brenda J Myers

If you would like to use all or part of this e-letter for your own newsletters/websites then please feel free. We need your assistance to reach the profession around the world, so please send this e-update to your members.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Next week, 3rd December, is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The theme of the day for 2012 is Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all.

Over one billion people, or approximately 15 per cent of the world's population, live with some form of disability. Persons with disabilities, "the world's largest minority", often face barriers to participation in all aspects of society. Commemoration of the day provides an opportunity to address this exclusion by focusing on promoting accessibility and removing all types of barriers in society.

For further information about the day and to see events around the world go to http://bit.ly/SnDXQR.

Additional disability and function resources may be accessed via the WCPT website at www.wcpt.org/node/27545.
