There are now less than six weeks left to plan your activities to celebrate World Physical Therapy Day. This year the theme is "Fit to take part", emphasising physical therapists' role in helping people with long-term illnesses or disabilities fulfil their potential by maximising movement and functional ability.   Posters and flyers with this year's "Fit to take part" theme are available for download from the toolkit page: www.wcpt.org/wptday-toolkit. From here you can also access a resources booklet with a list of facts and resources about physical therapy, independence and participation, as well as an article by the WCPT President.   Several of the World Physical Therapy Day 2014 posters are now available in Spanish. WCPT would like to thank the Asociación Española de Fisioterapeutas for the translation. www.wcpt.org/wptday-posters-spanish   Over the past few years the 8th September has become an increasingly important date in the physical therapy calendar. It is celebrated around the world and is used to highlight the crucial contribution the profession makes to keep people well, mobile and independent. WCPT Glossary updated

The WCPT Glossary has been updated - it is available to download and view at: www.wcpt.org/glossary. The glossary has been developed to support WCPT's work on policies, guidelines and other resources (eg database of experts, common data set), to ensure consistency in terminology and to aid international interpretation. It has also been developed as a resource for member organisations, regions and subgroups to use. WCPT is encouraging the use of the international terms where applicable but also recognises that not all terms are relevant at a national level.

WCPT Congress 2015 - registration opens!

This month saw registration open for the world's largest and most influential international physical therapy gathering. With just over two months until the early bird deadline of 2nd October 2014 register now and save up to 20%. WCPT awards programme

There is only one month left to submit nominations for a WCPT award before the 31st August deadline. The WCPT awards programme recognises outstanding international contributions and leadership by physical therapists to the profession and/or global health. There are four award categories open to nomination by WCPT member organisations, regions or subgroups: Mildred Elson Award International Service Award Humanitarian Service Award Leadership in Rehabilitation Award  If there is a physical therapist you would like to see nominated for an international award, please contact your WCPT member organisation.   For more information and to download the 2015 WCPT awards criteria and nomination procedure go to www.wcpt.org/awards.

WCPT has NCDs editorial published

WCPT President, Marilyn Moffat, and WCPT Director of Professional Policy, Tracy Bury, discuss the global importance of the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in an editorial: "Physiotherapists have a vital part to play in combatting the burden of non-communicable diseases". The editorial appears in the current 100th anniversary issue of Physiotherapy, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy's journal. The prominence of the profession and the importance of the work undertaken by physical therapists is showcased in this issue, looking in particular at NCDs, including cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes and cancer. Online oncology physical therapy certificate launched

One of WCPT's continuing education partners, EDUCATA and the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association has launched a new certification programme. The Certification of Achievement in Oncology Physical Therapy series will prepare physical therapists around the world for careers specialising in oncology-related rehabilitation. WHO: Guidelines on health-related rehabilitation

WHO has extended its deadline for the call for case studies and personal stories for its forthcoming Guidelines on health-related rehabilitation to 15th August. bit.ly/1pLE6PE.

Global shortage of health workers

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has this month issued a statement that there is a shortfall of around 10.3 million health workers worldwide to ensure that all those in need receive quality health services. In particular, it highlights how acute the problem is in low-income countries where, as a result, close to 90 per cent of the population has no access to healthcare. However, it also states that government investments in health protection can help close this gap and bring benefits to those who need it, as well as to the economy as a whole. Free Parkinson's webcast

The World Parkinson Coalition (WPC) is developing the learning opportunities it offers, and is now delivering its first ever WPC Scientific Update offering a free webcast - this online programme will include six sessions and six free CME/CEU credits from 30th September to 2nd October 2014. It is designed for the international Parkinson community to learn about the exciting scientific advances made over the last year since the Coalition's 2013 congress. Global leaders of the main health professions, including physical therapy, have urged their members to pay more attention to regulation issues and the need to implement the right systems to act in the public interest. Read the full article

WCPT intervenes in WHO disability discussion

The world's health ministers have endorsed an action plan to improve health for all people with a disability. At the World Health Assembly in Geneva in May, 33 member states voiced support for the resolution. Five non-governmental organisations including WCPT also stated their support for the plan at the meeting. Read the full article

Thousands attracted by massive online course for physical therapists

The first online education course to be approved by WCPT for continuing education units attracted 3,500 participants – with 1,348 completing the final evaluation and picking up WCPT's International Physical Therapy Continuing Education Units (IPT-CEUs). Read the full article

Curso Formación en Diagnóstico Fisioterapeutico y Tratamiento Mecánico de la Columna Cervical Media y Baja

 

Estimados colegas:

En el marco de las distintas actividades que viene llevando a cabo la Licenciatura en Fisioterapia de la EUTM Facultad de Medicina de cara a los nuevos planes de estudio y a su contribución a la formación continua de sus egresados; ha venido realizando diferentes actividades destinada a docentes de la Licenciatura con el Ft. Saul Zlotorinsky destacado colega, egresado de nuestra casa de estudios, actualmente residiendo en Tel-Aviv (Israel) que ha desarrollado una amplia formación de postgrado en Europa.

En este marco comenzamos este año extendiendo esta actividad a egresados de nuestra Licenciatura organizando en conjunto con el Hospital Británico el curso sobre: EXAMEN, DIAGNOSTICO Y TRATAMIENTO MECANICOS DE LA COLUMNA VERTEBRAL, basado en conceptos de los desatacados Fisioterapeutas McKenzie, Maitland y Mulligan entre otros, en esta ocasión el curso es sobre el diagnostico y tratamiento mecánico de la columna Cervical Media y Baja.

Los cupos son limitados y agradecemos su mas amplia difusión.

Luego de nuestra despedida del Espacio BIOERIX que albergara nuestros cursos por 2 años, tenemos el gusto de comunicarles, EOM-UY ya tiene nuevo local para el 2do semestre del año 2014.

 

A partir del próximo mes de agosto y hasta diciembre inclusive, los seminarios de EOM-UY se desarrollarán en el Edificio de UPAEP en la calle Cebollatí 1470 entre Barrios Amorín y Dr. Carlos Ma. Morales, Mdeo, en el Barrio de Palermo, frente a la sede de ALADI, al lado del hotel Ibis.

 

 

Debido a este cambio de local y por compromisos del mismo, no vemos obligados a variar un solo día de las fechas previstas al inicio del año.

 

El 2do seminario de 2do Año programado para los días: sábado 9, domingo 10 y lunes 11 de agosto, ha sido reprogramado para los días: viernes 8, sábado 9 y domingo 10 de agosto.

 

Esto es que, para completar los 3 días de clase en lugar del lunes 11, el seminario ocupará el viernes 8. Pedimos las disculpas del caso y avisamos por este medio a los colegas de la 2da generación a los efectos de que tengan un mes de tiempo para poder cambiar las licencias laborales solicitadas.

 

El resto de las fechas programadas al inicio del año para los seminarios de 1er año 3G y 2do año 2G, permanecen sin modificación alguna.
