From the President and Secretary General

As you read this, we will be completing the WCPT General Meeting in Singapore, and turning our thoughts to the opening ceremony of the WCPT Congress 2015, which begins on Friday.

There will be approximately 3,500 people there – and our registration statistics indicate that for around two thirds of them this will be their first WCPT Congress. It's great news that so many new people are discovering the congress, and have the opportunity to profit from its learning and networking opportunities. The profession can only benefit.

For those who can't attend, there are still ways to share in the unique opportunities congress offers over the next few days. You can look at the programme (www.wcpt.org/congress/programme), follow our rolling news updates from congress (www.wcpt.org/congress/articles), follow what's going on Twitter through the #WCPT2015 hashtag and then – when the congress is over – access the dozens of presentations via our website.

Whether you're in Singapore or not, we strongly believe that a WCPT Congress has something to offer everyone.

Kind regards
Marilyn Moffat and Brenda J Myers

Call for full disclosure of trial results

The World Health Organization has issued a public statement calling for the disclosure of results from clinical trials, whatever the result. The move aims to ensure that decisions related to the safety and efficacy of vaccines, drugs and medical devices for use by populations are supported by the best available evidence.

The WHO statement falls into line with the objectives of the All Trials campaign for research transparency, which WCPT signed up to in 2013: www.alltrials.net/.

From the President and Secretary General
We are looking forward to presenting the WCPT Awards on 30th April during the gala dinner being held at the time of the WCPT General Meeting in Singapore. The awards, including the Mildred Elson Award launched in 1987, recognise outstanding contributions to physical therapy on an international level.

As the world gets smaller, international recognition is increasingly important for those professionals who extend their influence beyond national boundaries to further their profession and promote global health. These are special people.

There's a lot of commitment in our profession. Many physical therapists give up their time – and sometimes much more - to contribute to the work of the profession at national, regional and international levels. They undertake projects, organise events, and sit on committees among other things. We'll be seeing it too in the approximately 250 volunteers who will guide and help delegates during the WCPT Congress 2015, after the General Meeting.

During our time in Singapore, we'll have plenty of opportunity to relish everything that is good in our profession.

Kind regards
Marilyn Moffat and Brenda J Myers

In addition, the two pager "NCDs: A Priority for Sustainable Human Development" can also be downloaded. It includes new infographics to reinforce the case for NCDs as a priority development issue, and outlines our asks for NCD-related targets/indicators in post-2015. The toolkit is currently available as a PDF download in English and Spanish: bit.ly/1BrYXIj.
