HELP MAKE THE VOICE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONALS BE HEARD ON NONCOMMUNICABLE
DISEASES

Concerned that global epidemic of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)
represents a significant threat to human health and social and economic
development, the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) has launched
a
practical toolkit, called WHPA Health Improvement Card, to help combat
NCDs.

WHPA HEALTH IMPROVEMENT CARD - A PRACTICAL TOOL TO HELP REDUCE THE NCD
BURDEN

The WHPA Health Improvement Card [2] is a simple, universal educational
tool for adults to assess and record their status to common risk
factors. It empowers individuals and their health professional to take
a
proactive approach in preventing NCDs and associated disability.
Currently it is available to download in ENGLISH and SPANISH versions
at
www.whpa.org/ncd_campaign_health_improvement_card.htm [3]. A French
version is in production and other language versions may become
available (or if your association is interested to translate the WHPA
Health Improvement Card, please let us know).

HEALTH IMPROVEMENT CARD COMPONENTS:

· Lifestyle/behavioural (four main risk factors: healthy diet, physical
activity, tobacco use and alcohol use)

· Metabolic/biometric (four important body measures: BMI, fasting blood
sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure)

· Action plan and goals targeting risk factors

TWO HEALTH IMPROVEMENT GUIDES with background information for:

· Patients and the public

· Health professionals

WHPA has produced additional resources, these are available from the
WHPA website at www.whpa.org/ncd_campaign.htm [4].
