| | From the President and Secretary General Another World Physical Therapy Day is quickly approaching and we're pleased to launch a brand new range of materials to help support physical therapists around the world in celebrating the day and raising awareness of the role the profession plays in the health of people and communities. There seems to be an ever increasing range of international initiatives and publications that have clear relevance to physical therapists and highlight the importance of physical therapy and the full range of physical rehabilitation services in supporting inclusion and full participation of all in communities. World Physical Therapy Day New message, new logo, new materials WCPT has developed a brand new range of materials to help you organise activities and campaigns for World Physical Therapy Day 2012. As in previous years, WCPT's suggested theme is Movement for Health, and this year we have also produced materials with a specific message: Fit for life. We are encouraging physical therapists around the world to highlight the importance of physical activity throughout the lifespan.

WHO Patient Safety recently launched a book, "The evolving threat of antimicrobial resistance - options for action". It describes examples of policy activities that have addressed antimicrobial resistance in different parts of the world, with the aim of raising awareness and in particular to stimulate further coordinated efforts. A crisis has been building up over decades, meaning that today common yet life-threatening infections are becoming difficult or even impossible to treat. WHO is urging that it is time for health workers to take much stronger action worldwide to avert an ever-increasing health and economic burden. The Community Tool Box is a global resource for free information on essential skills for building healthy communities, promoting community health and development by connecting people, ideas and resources. It offers toolkits to help you get a quick start on key activities in community work which include key tasks, examples, and tools for support. Educata: new lower prices Educata, a WCPT online education partner, has dropped its prices by 20% to recognise the challenges that many physical therapists are facing in the current economic climate. United Nations: disability This month the United Nations (UN) shared the good news that disability has been included in the Rio+20 Outcome Document as a result of their joint effort in advocacy and partnership toward disability-inclusive development. The Rio +20 Outcome Document, "The future we want", affirms that green economic policies should enhance the welfare of people with disabilities, and calls on States to commit to a safe and healthy living environment for all, particularly people with disabilities. ICRC Rehabilitation Programme Report The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. Its 2011 report describes the worldwide activities of the ICRC's Physical Rehabilitation Programme, which included assisting 92 projects in 27 countries and one territory, with more than 222,000 people benefiting from various services at ICRC-assisted centres. The services included the production of 19,740 prostheses and 52,832 orthoses, the provision of 3,492 wheelchairs and 15,650 pairs of crutches. Third International Conference on Violence in the Health Sector: there is just over a month to the submission deadline of 1st August 2012 for poster abstracts. WCPT South America Region: the preliminary programme of the South America Region Congress is now available at http://wcptsar2012.jimdo.com/programa-preliminar. The congress will take place in Margarita Island, Venezuela 5th - 8th September 2012. IFOMPT Conference 2012: the full programme is now available for the conference of the WCPT subgroup, the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT), to be held in Quebec City, Canada from 30th September - 5th October 2012.
