World Physical Therapy Day
There is now just over one month left to plan your activities to celebrate World Physical Therapy Day 2016. This year the theme is "Add life to years", emphasising physical therapists' important role in healthy ageing. Read the WCPT President's message on this year's theme at: www.wcpt.org/wptday-presidents-message.

Start planning your activities by taking a look at the toolkit WCPT has produced to help you celebrate the day, which includes:

  • an infographic
  • graphics to post on social media
  • posters
  • a postcard
  • a leaflet
  • a guidance booklet
  • stickers
  • list of further resources, including research articles.

WHO Priority Assistive Products List
WHO Priority Assistive Products List
The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a Priority Assistive Products List promoting access to assistive technology. The list includes hearing aids, wheelchairs, communication aids, spectacles, artificial limbs, pill organizers, memory aids and other essential items for many older people and people with disabilities to be able to live a healthy, productive and dignified life.

The list was finalised at a consensus meeting held in March, which was attended by Alice Inman on behalf of WCPT to represent the physical therapy profession. The list was compiled as part of WHO's Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology (GATE) initiative.

Call for mentors: education and professional associations
In collaboration with Handicap International and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), WCPT is implementing a project of strengthening national associations and entry level physical therapist education programmes in Mali, Niger and Senegal.

WCPT is seeking a WCPT Country Mentor for each of the three countries, who will mentor leadership of physical therapist education institutions. WCPT is also seeking Country Mentors who will mentor leadership of national physical therapy associations in those countries.

Ethical principles of healthcare personnel in times of conflict and emergencies

One year ago the ICRC hosted a public livestreamed conference to mark the launch of "The Ethical principles of health care in times of armed conflict and other emergencies". Qualified as "ground-breaking" by ICRC President Peter Maurer, the ethical principles have since been signed by WCPT.
