| | From the President and Secretary General Professional policy is at the heart of much of WCPT's activities. For many individual physical therapists policy statements can seem a little removed from the everyday reality of practice, but they are important tools for furthering the development of the profession and informing health and social policy around the world. Many of WCPT's policies are supported by additional resources, such as guidelines or dedicated areas of the WCPT website to help facilitate implementation. One new resource that we hope will be a valuable addition is the A-Z glossary of terms used across our policies and guidelines. It has been developed to ensure consistency in terminology and to aid international interpretation across the profession (see below for further details). As we continue to take forwards the objectives from WCPT's strategic plan we anticipate further resources to support the policy work of WCPT and our member organisations, making sure they reflect the needs of the physical therapy profession and our patients/clients. Kind regards, Marilyn Moffat and Brenda J Myers If you would like to use all or part of this e-letter for your own newsletters/websites then please feel free. We need your assistance to reach the profession around the world, so please send this e-update to your members. World Physical Therapy Day Work has started for this year's World Physical Therapy Day. Supporting the work of the Confederation's policies and guidelines, it has been developed to aid international interpretation and promote a consistency in terminology used around the world. With over 170 fully referenced terms the glossary is a valuable tool for WCPT's member organisations, regions, subgroups and individual physical therapists. WCPT is encouraging the wide use of these international terms. The glossary may be accessed as: The glossary is not intended to be an exhaustive A-Z of terms used in physical therapy. Added to each of our member organisation pages on the WCPT website is a link to view WHO's noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) profile for that country. The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) is calling on people to "lend their leg" on 4th April to highlight the problems that landmines still cause around the world. Many physical therapists have worked in areas affected by landmines and treated people with amputations or other injuries relating to landmines. The ICBL writes about the Lend Your Leg campaign: "Lend Your Leg is strikingly simple. On 4th April, the UN Day for Mine Action and Mine Awareness, people all over the world will be asked to roll up their trouser legs showing solidarity with survivors of landmines and other explosive remnants of war, calling on the international community to eradicate these weapons for good".
